The detention facility allows two inmates to work for the city of Marion at the street department and water department. These inmates receive valuable education and experience in working for local city government. Our inmates work reading water meters, help repair busted lines, are used for fall leaf pick up programs as well as keeping the city streets free of litter.
The city benefits from the ability to have additional manpower, when the financial picture for small city budgets are already stretched to the breaking point. It is a partnership where each side wins. It is the detention facility’s hope that the work the inmates do make them more employable once they leave prison and reenter society. |
